At Delia’s, we proudly serve the best tamales at our seven locations in the Rio Grande Valley and San Antonio. Our menu includes a wide selection, like our famous chicken, pork, bean and cheese, sweet cream cheese, and Veracruzano tamales, to name a few. Although they’re delicious on their own, we’d like to suggest a few side dishes to pair them with!
One of the simplest and healthiest side dishes to pair our tamales with is a salad. Delia’s offers a tomato and lettuce salad that you can take to-go with your meal. We also recommend trying an avocado salad, packed with sliced avocados, cherry tomatoes, cilantro, and cucumbers. Whichever salad you make, remember to be creative and enjoy a healthy serving of veggies with your tamales.
Fried Eggs and Salsa
Top off your breakfast tamales with some fried eggs and salsa. Simply fry up some eggs your way, place them on top of your favorite tamales, smother them with our red or green salsa, and enjoy!
Jicama slaw is a fresh side dish that you’ll enjoy with our tamales on a hot day! Not only is it sweet and crunchy, but it’s also packed with some delicious fruits and vegetables. It’s typically prepared with thinly sliced jicama, carrots, cabbage, mango, and topped off with a lime juice dressing that includes lime, honey, oil, ancho or chili powder, salt, and pepper.
Rice and Beans
Rice and beans are traditional staples in many Latin meals and cuisines, and tamales are no exception. Although traditional Mexican rice is our go-to choice, we also recommend cooking up some delicious cilantro rice. Since there are different types of beans, we highly recommend pinto, black, or refried to enjoy with our tamales.
Mexican Street Elote
Enjoy Delia’s with some homemade Mexican street elote! Grill each side of the corn on the cob until the kernels turn a sweet golden brown. Mix together some mayo, chili powder, garlic salt, and pepper, and spread it evenly on the elote. Top it off with some cilantro and grated cotija or parmesan cheese, and voilà! Your taste buds won’t be able to resist the delicious meal you’ve created.
We hope you enjoy cooking up some of these delicious side dishes to serve alongside our tamales. Don’t forget to try our Aguas Frescas to finish off your meal! Read our previous blog post to learn more about which Aguas Frescas are best to pair with our tamales.
